Switchmode regulators really are risky for use in a low
noise environment. Even if you can reduce input and
output conducted noise to acceptable levels, the
opportunity for magnetic coupling from the inductor
to adjacent wiring is bad news. This can be very
tough to find and eliminate, particularly if the
controller frequency varies with load. Toroidal
inductors are superior, but lead dress/routing can
still result in unwanted coupling.
