  Bruce,

  Why would it make any difference? It would seem that as long  as the
  cable and connectors are stable, any reflections should be constant,
  and the  signal amplitude and phase should remain  constant.  So the
  zero crossings at the receiver end should not change.

  Where did I go wrong?
