A lightening strike anywhere within 10ft will probably total your antenna, the coax and the GPS receiver attached to it.

What about mounting the antenna on the side of the metal pole, with the top of the pole extending a foot or more above the antenna?

The idea is to have the lightning bolt strike the pole, but not the antenna. The cable shield would need to be insulated from the pole, but grounded on entry to the building.

Would the pole disturb the GPS signal to any noticeable extent?
