I pulled this off the GOES manual.

---------------
Generally, GOES telemetry involves one-way communication: a remote site transmits data periodically to the satellite, but the satellite does not send information to the remote site. Although GOES satellites have transmitters that make downlink communication possible, these features are rarely used because the associated receiving equipment at the surface site would double the cost and complexity of the telemetry equipment. Consequently, you must visit the site to change operating protocols and perform such tasks as resetting the YESDAS clock if its drift becomes too great.

I thought I read somewhere that it was a polled system, where the
satellite tells the stations when their chance is ?
