They are only murky because patent offices place fewer one fewer
restrictions on what can be patented. In the old days you need
something a lot more tangible than the mere design of a waveform in
order to get a patent, but apparently today, anything goes.
I also have to wonder how two members of a task force can patent
things that presumably the entire task force designed, assuming I
didn't overlook some details in the article.
The best route would be to drag the patent office to court and
invalidate those patents.
