Dave welcome to the time nuts. Oh the question we all wonder about. What
should I buy? It depends on the need and the key question is what do you
need to do. A reference is a mighty wide statement on this forum. Is it ham
radio...
Its easy to get bitten by the accuracy bug. Its starts out simple an oven
oscillator and soon you have a GPS DO and finally a cesium reference after
you have sold your house.
Be careful.

I see that ASI has now sold 112 of the Lucent units I am happy with my
units and they compare well to the HP 3801 and Tbolt in behavior. That said
someone will correct me about how bad they are compared to X, Y, or Z. But
fine for my needs and thats the key. What do you need?
Regards
