Brian,

Thanks for the pointer to the model 350. I can see that it has a more rugged design. Nice it has 1PPS in the cable. Price is only modestly more than models 353/355.

Here are photos of the little PCB inside of my BR-355S4 (serial) and BU-353S4 (USB). The patch antenna is on the other side of the board. Notice they cleverly allowed for either the RS232 chip or the USB chip, everything else being is identical.

Both use a 6-pin connector, 3 pins of which are ground. 1PPS is available on pin 20 of the SiRF chip.
If you just want to use the PCB, I believe these connector/cables are compatible:

Aside from the convenient form factor of a plastic puck (self contained antenna, weather resistant, magnetic mount) it remains to be seen why one might want a ~$40 SiRF IV receiver instead of a ~$20 ublox-6M receiver as a 1PPS source. I have data for both but will try a simultaneous comparison to be sure before I post.
