There are nice Trimble Resolution-T TEP timing receivers available for cheap on Ebay. The TEP version is designed to emulate an 8 channel Motorola receiver. The firmware does support operation in TSIP mode. You can use Trimble Studio to put the receiver into TSIP mode or you can send the (undocumented) Motorola binary message "@@Wb" (followed by a 0x35 checksum byte, 0x0D, 0x0A).

Note that other brands of timing receivers (like the Jupiter-T) also support Motorola emulation mode. They also use the "@@Wb" command for switching to their native language, but the "@@Wb" might need to be followed by another byte that specifies the protocol to speak. For the Jupiter-T a 0 means Motorola mode, and a 1 means Zodiac mode (but if the Jupiter-T is in Zodiac mode, you may need to send it the Zodiac factory reset command to get it back to Motorola mode)

To switch a Trimble Resolution-T TEP from TSIP mode back to Motorola mode you need to send the TSIP factory reset message (0x1E, 'F') There does not appear to be a TSIP command for just switching the mode.

The next version of Lady Heather will have commands for doing the dirty work for you...
