Attached is a photo of the XLR power connector. It agrees with Brooke's 
annotated photo:

That said, I learned the hard way it's good to look inside at the power 
pins, especially if the instrument came from eBay / garage sale / ham 
fest. You never know for sure what mods the previous owner did or why. 
Also, telecom gear doesn't necessarily assume frame ground is negative.
